An Introduction to Modeling Inter-Construct Relationships in Islamic Psychology

Abstract

Islamic psychology, as an interdisciplinary field, requires the development of conceptual frameworks capable of explaining the structural relationships among psychological constructs from the perspective of religious texts. This study presents an analytical review aimed at examining the feasibility and necessity of formulating relational models of psychological concepts through religious sources. The research employs content analysis of previous studies in the field of research methodology in Islamic psychology, as well as works related to theory-building and modeling with a psychological approach grounded in religious texts.

The findings indicate that religious texts, while offering various levels of psychological analysis, possess a unique capacity for identifying and mapping structural relationships among psychological constructs. This study, in addition to outlining the feasibility and necessity of such an endeavor, briefly traces the developmental trajectory of research from the stage of describing individual concepts toward analyzing structural relationships, ultimately proposing a general framework for the formulation of relational models. The results of this study may serve as a foundation for the development of indigenous theories in Islamic psychology.
