Abstract

This study was conducted with the purpose of investigating the relationship between optimism and family efficacy with the mediating role of self-control. The research method was descriptive-correlational and the population included all married people living in Qom province. 156 individuals were selected by the simple random sampling. Nouri's (2009) optimism questionnaire, Safouraei's (2009) family efficacy measurement and Rafieihonar's (2011) self-control questionnaires were used to collect data. To analyze the data, Baron and Kenny's four-step method was applied. In the end, the research findings showed the following results: a) there is a significant positive relationship between the predictor variable (optimism) and the criterion variable (family efficacy); b) there is a significant positive relationship between the mediator variable (self-control) and the predictor variable (optimism); c) there is a significant positive relationship between the criterion variable (family efficacy) and the mediating variable (self-control); and finally, e) the self-control variable completely plays a mediating role in the relationship between the two variables of optimism and family efficacy.
